Industry leading manufacturing

MK
Huel MK began manufacturing in August 2024. Built solely for Huel, it features systems ensuring food safety, quality, and traceability. From ingredient intake to automated packing and X-ray checks, every step ensures consistency, safety, and excellence across all Huel products.
Global powder co-manufacturing
At Huel, safety and quality come first. We work with GFSI-certified partners, audited yearly by our technical team. Our “Huelway Code” sets high standards, with X-rays, barcode checks, and rigorous testing to ensure every product meets our strict requirements.
Global ready to drink manufacturing
Our RTD manufacturing is also held to the Huelway Code, with controls around sieves, thermal processing and very sensitive microbiological and allergen testing, on a positive release system. We work with the world's leading factories and have a dedicated technical team to make sure every bottle is up to our high standards.

Manufacturing process

STEP 1
Manufacturing controls
From intake to dispatch, every step is designed for precision and control. Ingredients are carefully selected, weighed, and filtered/sieved. Each blend is validated for quality and nutrition. During packing, each product is scanned, sealed, weighed, and checked using metal detection or X-ray, ensuring it meets Huel’s strict standards before reaching our customers.
STEP 2
Raw Material controls
We only source ingredients from suppliers that have passed our stringent specification and supplier assurance questionnaires. Materials also undergo allergen screening and are assessed against a quality standards through inspections. Ingredients that fails to meet these standards is rejected. We also conduct 25+ in-person factory audits annually
STEP 3
QA Lab
We conduct quality checks in our dedicated quality lab. Raw materials are tested by our specialised raw material team for key parameters including particle size, moisture content, water activity, and organoleptic properties. This rigorous process ensures tightly controlled product quality and industry-leading consistency for our customers.

We go above and beyond by testing Huel for hundreds of contaminants and banned substances.

Bioavailability of essential nutrients
Huel meals are 'nutritionally complete' at 2,000 calories made with high quality, optimally sourced ingredients that provide ideal amounts of essential nutrients. In a 4-week study where participants consumed only Huel, several nutrient levels were maintained or improved, including vitamins D & B12, iron & selenium showing effective absorption and utilisation.

What we eat is the most important factor in determining both our own health and the health of the planet. Huel’s Product & Nutrition Department ensures all our work is science-led, delivering optimally nutrient-dense, plant-rich foods that support a healthy future for people and planet.
Complete nutrition, lowest impact
We’ve set carbon footprint targets for all products, aligned with limiting global warming to 1.5°C. We assess ingredients across carbon, water, biodiversity, and land use. All suppliers must hold verified ethical certifications. As a certified B Corp, we’re committed to continuous improvement and verified sustainability performance.

Third party testing

Finished Product Testing
All Huel products are routinely tested for micro, allergens, heavy metals, and pesticides. We have sampling teams in the UK and US, using certified labs UKAS and FDA-compliant standards. Our in-house NIR tech also enables advanced quality testing when needed.
Raw material testing
In addition to our internal checks, Huel requires a Certificate of Analysis (CoA) for every raw material delivered to site, verifying compliance with relevant specifications and testing requirements. Each CoA is individually reviewed by our Raw Material Team to ensure our products meet the highest food industry standards.

Global co-manufacturing
Our GFSI-certified partners hold Kosher, Halal, Coeliac, and Vegan Society accreditations, ensuring quality for all. In the US, select products are NSF approved, showing our strong commitment to meeting diverse customer needs and maintaining high standards.
Supplier accreditations
We partner with trusted, GFSI-accredited suppliers who are approved through Huel’s Supplier Approval Programme. Each supplier undergoes screening to ensure compliance with our strict food safety and quality standards. We also conduct regular performance reviews and audits to ensure suppliers continue to meet our high expectations and consistently deliver safe, high-quality ingredients.
NSF
NSF certification is especially valued in professional and sports nutrition, offering independent assurance that products meet strict criteria. As part of this commitment, we're working closely with our manufacturing sites and raw material suppliers are actively progressing towards NSF certification.
